Safety Reminders

  • Never enter an area where you suspect a leak.
  • If you suspect a leak, do not do anything that can cause a spark or flame. Do not smoke or operate light switches. Get out of the house and call your gas company from a cell phone or a neighbors home.
  • Always be alert for any propane odor. Even a faint odor may indicate danger.
  • Repeated pilot outages may signal a problem with your system. Don't attempt to relight the pilot or service your equipment. Call your propane dealer.
  • If your appliance has been flooded, shut off the gas immediatly at the tank. Do not use the appliance until the equipment has been checked and serviced by your propane dealer or qualified appliance repair service.
  • Improperly vented or defective appliances can cause life threatening Carbon Monoxide poising. Have your propane system and appliances regularly checked by your propane dealer or qualified appliance repair service.
  • Keep combustible products like gasoline, kerosene, or cleaners away from propane appliances and tanks. Your appliance pilot lights could ignite fumes from these products.
  • Always read instructions carefully prior to operating any propane gas appliance.
  • Never store propane cylinders or containers indoors or in an enclosed area such as a basement, garage, or shed.
  • Keep weeds and grass cut down around the tank for easy access.
  • Never put a lock on your tank as it creates a serious safety hazard.
  • Know where gas lines are located so you won't damage them when digging or working in your yard.
  • Change or clean furnace filters regularly as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Know how to shut off the gas supply from your tank or cylinder. If you do not know how, contact your propane supplier for instructions.
  • Never place your head near or directly over the valve on your storage tank. A sudden release of product from the safety relief valve could result in serious injury.
  • The propane liquid that is stored in your tank or cylinder can cause severe frostbite if it comes in contact with your skin or eyes.
  • Contact your propane supplier to add, remove, or service any propane appliance. A professional service technician will perform a complete system safety check to ensure your system is safe.
  • Never use a gas oven or range-top burners to provide space heating.
  • Do not under any circumstances try to modify or repair valves, regulators or other appliance parts.
